HINDI umano pagsikil sa press freedom kundi paniningil sa may pananagutan ang nangyaring pagsuspendi ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) sa operasyon ng Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI).

Ayon kay ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro ang nangyayari sa SMNI ay hindi katulad ng ginawang pagpapasara ng Duterte administration sa ABS-CBN.

Sinabi ni Castro na ang SMNI ay sinuspendi dahil sa pagpapakalat nito ng maling impormasyon, red-tagging, at hindi pagsunod sa nakasaad sa kanilang prangkisa.

“As it stands now the SMNI issue is shaping out not to be a press freedom issue as its hosts and ‘talents’ want to project,” ani Castro.

“With the recent hearings by the Committee on Legislative Franchise on SMNI, as well as some of the documents that we have seen, it seems that SMNI itself is a threat to press freedom with its advocacy of violence, disinformation (fake news) and intolerance (hate speech),” dagdag pa nito.

Sinuspendi ng NTC ang SMNI ng 30 araw at inutusan na magpaliwanag sa loob ng 15 araw kaugnay ng mga sinasabing paglabag nito sa termino ng kanilang prangkisa.

Sinabi ni Castro na ipinasara ng nakaraang administrasyon ang ABS-CBN dahil sa pamababatikos sa mga Duterte.

“We hope that the measures for accountability of SMNI, its hosts, executives and owners including Pastor Quiboloy himself will continue because they have abused the network as an anti-people tool and mouthpiece of the Dutertes and the NTF-ELCAC (National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict),” dagdag pa ng lady solon.

Kabilang sa nilabag umano ng SMNI ang pagpapakalat nito ng maling impormasyon, pagkabigo na ireport sa Kongreso sa itinakdang oras ang ginawa nitong pagpapalit ng may-ari, at pagkabigo na i-alok sa publiko ang hindi bababa sa 30 porsyento ng stocks nito.
