MAINIT na binati ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez noong Linggo ng gabi ang mga incumbent at dating mambabatas sa ibang bansa, mga diplomat, at mga security at technology experts na lalahok sa isasagawang Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum (PI-SF) na nagsimula ng Lunes, Pebrero 3.

Sa kanyang talumpati sa isinagawang reception sa Solaire Resort North sa Quezon City, sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ang pagtitipon ay isang pagsusulong para sa isang rules-based international order, pagpapalalim ng strategic cooperation, at pagtiyak na walang bansa— maliit man o malaki—na mag-isang haharap sa agresyon at intimidasyon.

Ang PI-SF ay isang global platform kung saan tinatalakay ang intelligence-sharing, counterterrorism, cybersecurity at iba pang hamon sa seguridad.

“There are moments in history when the weight of responsibility bears heavily upon those entrusted with the defense of peace, the preservation of order, and the safeguarding of freedom. This gathering is one such moment,” sabi ng lider ng Kamara na mayroong 307 miyembro.

“Tonight, under this roof, we are not merely representatives of nations—we are custodians of a fragile yet enduring principle: that security is built not on the shifting sands of power, but on the solid ground of cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect,” dagdag pa nito.

Layunin ng PI-SF na matugunan ang mga geopolitical tension, economic coercion at cyber threats na kinakaharap ng iba’t ibang bansa.

Ang Pilipinas ang host ng forum ngayong taon at nakatuon ito sa pagtiyak ng rules-based international order sa Indo-Pacific region.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ang Indo-Pacific region ay nahaharap sa global security concerns dahil sa mga agawan sa teritoryo, economic coercion, cyber threats at geopolitical rivalry.

Ipinaalala ng lider ng Kamara sa mga kalahok na ang malalakas na bansa ay umaangat at bumabagsak pero ang mga bansa na nagsasama-sama sa pagdepensa ay nananatili.

Bukod umano sa lakas ng armas, ipinaalala ni Speaker Romualdez na nasusukat din ang lakas ng bansa sa lalim ng tiwala rito ng ibang mga bansa.

Sinabi naman ni Speaker Romualdez na kailangang umaksyon upang mapanatili ang katatagan sa Indo-Pacific region.

“It will be preserved by action. By the willingness of nations to stand firm against coercion, to defend the principles enshrined in international law, and to engage with one another not as rivals, but as responsible stewards of the peace upon which our peoples depend,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

“As Speaker of the House of Representatives, I welcome you with the assurance that the Philippines stands with its partners in defending sovereignty, promoting security, and upholding the rule of law. We do so not out of convenience, nor out of expediency, but out of the firm belief that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice,” dagdag pa nito.

Kumpiyansa ang lider ng Kamara na ang forum ay maaalala hindi dahil sa mga salitang nasabi kundi sa mga alyansang napalakas nito, mga pangakong napagkasunduan at direksyong tutunguhin nito para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.

“Welcome, and let history mark this as a gathering of consequence,” saad pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Nagpasalamat naman si PI-SF Chairperson at dating US Congressman Robert Pittenger kay Speaker Romualdez at Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez sa oportunidad na magkaroon ng forum sa Pilipinas, upang mapag-usapan ang strategic collaboration, makalikha ng mga bagong kaibigan, at mapalalim ang mga kaalaman kaugnay ng mga banta sa global security lalo na sa Indo-Pacific region.
