House panel iginiit pagbibigay ng proteksyon sa interes ng PH sa WPS
IGINIIT ng House Special Committee on West Philippine Sea (WPS) na pinamumunuan ni Mandaluyong Lone District Rep. Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II ang pangako nito na sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez ay poproteksyunan ang interes ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
Sa pagdinig ng komite, binigyan-diin ni Gonzales ang kahalagahan na manindigan para sa bansa sa gitna ng agresibong mga hakbang na ginagawa ng China sa loob ng teritoryo ng bansa.
“Tensions are high, and it comes when we are experiencing numerous simultaneous conflicts around the world. The frequent incidents prompted by Chinese vessels in the WPS is a serious cause for concern,” ani Gonzales sa kanyang opening speech sa pagdinig ng komite.
“As I have previously said, our committee is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Philippines and its people,” ani Gonzales, na dating Deputy speaker at Majority leader.
“And so, we called this meeting to serve as a platform for open dialogue, ensuring that we address the challenges head-on and work towards a peaceful, cooperative future in the [WPS],” dagdag pa ni Gonzales.
Ang pagdinig ng komite ni Gonzales ay kapareho ng naging pahayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na poproteksyunan ang teritoryo ng bansa.
Bago naging Pangulo sinabi ni Marcos na hindi nito isusuko ang kahit na isang pulgada ng teritoryo ng bansa.
Tinalakay ng komite ang mga ginawang ginawa ng China kasama ang pangyayari noong Oktobre 22 kung saan binangga ng mga sasakyang pangdagat ng Chinese Coast Guard ang bangkang Unaiza May 2 na magdadala ng suplay sa mga sundalong naka-istasyon sa BRP Sierra Madre sa Ayungin Shoal.
“Since then, the Philippines has strongly protested China’s actions. President Marcos has called on the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to investigate the matter; the Department of Foreign Affairs has filed a diplomatic protest and has summoned the Chinese Ambassador, and leaders of Congress have condemned the incident and called on China to be held accountable for its actions, with our very own Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez saying that ‘the Chinese Coast Guard’s collisions with Philippine boats have placed the lives of passengers in the vessels in danger and regional peace and stability at risk’,” dagdag pa ni Gonzales.
