WALANG tumutol sa isinagawang botohan ng Kamara de Representantes sa pag-apruba sa panukalang pagdedeklara ng National Hijab Day tuwing Pebrero 1 ng bawat taon.

Ang House Bill 5693 ay nakakuha ng 274 pabor na boto. Ito ay akda nina Maguindanao Rep. Bai Dimple Mastura, Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman, at lanal del Norte Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo.

“The National Hijab Day shall be observed on every first day of February to showcase hijabis’ rights and the Muslim tradition of wearing a hijab. Muslim and non-Muslim women shall be encouraged to don the hijab on this day,” sabi sa panukala.

Ang hijab ay ang takip sa ulo hanggang sa dibdib na ginagamit ng mga babaeng Muslim. Ang mga gumagamit nito ay tinatawag na hijabi.

Layunin umano ng panukala na mabawasan ang diskriminasyon sa mga Muslim at maalis ang maling paniniwala na ang hijab ay simbolo ng pang-aapi o kawalan ng kalayaan.

“Government institutions, schools, and the private sector shall be encouraged to observe this event in a manner that promotes understanding and awareness among its employees and students of the objective of the campaign,” sabi pa sa HB 5693.
