NAGPAHAYAG ng pakikiramay ang Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso sa pagpanaw ni Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Ang pakikiramay ay inihalad sa pinagtibay na House Resolution 688 na akda nina Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino C. Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos, at Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez at Jude A. Acidre.

“…As a predominantly Catholic country, the Filipinos share in the sorrow of those grieving over the loss of an endeared man of faith, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and he will always be especially remembered as a Pope of Charity, a great theologian, catechist, and musician who gave hope to all those who know his life, his principles and his legacy,” sabi sa resolusyon.

Ipinanganak na Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger noong Abril 16, 1927, si Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI ay pumanaw sa edad na 95 noong Disyembre 31, 2022 sa Mater Ecclesiae Monastery sa Vatican.

Kababalik lamang ng sesyon ng Kongreso kaya hindi napagtibay ang resolusyon ng mas maaga.

Si Ratzinger ay naging pari sa edad na 24. Siya ay naging Archbishop ng Munich at Freising, Germany ni Pope Paul VI noong Marso 1977. Sa kaparehong taon siya ay na-ordinahan bilang bishop at cardinal.

Bilang dean ng College of Cardinals, si Ratzinger ang nangasiwa sa deliberasyon ng mabakante ang Holy see ng pumanaw si Pope John Paul II noong Abril 2, 2005.

Si Ratzinger ay naging ika-265 Pontiff ng Simbahang Katolika at kanyang pinili ang pangalang Benedict XVI.

Siya ay nagbitiw bilang lider ng Simbahang Katolika noong Pebrero 2013.
