ITINANGGI ni Senador Panfilo “Ping” Lacson ang mga pahayag na mistulang “undeclared martial law” ang security inspection sa Senado, at sinabing ginawa ito dahil sa intelligence reports tungkol sa security threat at saklaw nito ang lahat ng opisina.

Sinabi ni Lacson na isinagawa ang security survey and inspection ng Philippine National Police at Bureau of Fire Protection, sa tulong ng Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“What Martial Law?,” sabi ni Lacson, sa pagbasura sa mga pagtutol ng ilang minoryang senador.

Ayon kay Lacson, sinailalim sa safety and security inspection ang lahat ng opisina ng mga senador, kabilang ang tanggapan ni Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, gayundin ang mga opisina ng Senate secretariat at iba pang units.

“Martial law? All the offices of individual senators, even including that of Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, as well as those occupied by the secretariat and all other offices, were subjected to safety and security inspections to make sure that we and the Senate employees as well as the media people covering the Senate will be safe and secure from a repeat of the May 13 shooting incident and mayhem that transpired under the watch of disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano,” sinabi ni Lacson.

Sinabi ni Lacson na ang may “clean consciences” ay dapat tumanggap sa inspeksyon sa halip na batikusin ito.

“Except for those of us who may be apprehensive that they may have kept or stored contraband items like firearms, explosives and drugs in their offices, those with clean consciences should all welcome instead of criticize the SSI that was conducted by the PNP and the Bureau of Fire Protection, assisted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” dagdag niya.

Isinagawa ang inspeksyon matapos maglabas si Gatchalian ng advisory sa mga senador at tanggapan ng Senado, na bumanggit sa patuloy na impormasyon at intelligence reports mula sa National Bureau of Investigation, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency at iba pang security assessments.

Binanggit sa advisory ang “evolving security concern” sa gitna ng heightened political tensions, ongoing impeachment proceedings, anticipated mass mobilizations at posibleng mga pagkilos na maaaring magbanta sa seguridad ng mga senador, opisyal at empleyado o makagambala sa operasyon ng Senado.

Nauna nang tumutol ang ilang minoryang senador sa inspeksyon. Kinuwestiyon ni Senador Alan Peter Cayetano kung nasa ilalim ng “martial law” ang Senado dahil sa lockdown, habang sinabi ni Senador Robinhood Padilla na hindi dapat tratuhin na parang kampo ng sundalo ang Senado.

Sinabi rin ni Lacson na sinuman ang gumagamit sa 18 “Maleta Boys,” na inilarawan bilang mga dating sundalo na nagsabing naghatid sila ng mga maletang puno ng pera sa iba’t ibang personalidad, para sa posibleng tangkang destabilisasyon ay hindi kayang pahinain ang propesyonalismo ng uniformed services.

Ayon kay Lacson, handa ang majority bloc sa posibleng mga hakbang ng kampo ni Cayetano bago ang June 17 special session.
