HINAMON ng mga miyembro ng Young Guns ang mga kandidato sa pagkasenador na isapubliko ang kanilang paninindigan kaugnay ng impeachment case na inihain laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Binigyan-diin nina House Assistant Majority Leader Pammy Zamora ng Taguig City at 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez na dapat ding ipahayag ng senatorial candidates ang kanilang paninindigan sa isyu ng transparency, accountability, at maingat na paggamit ng pondo ng bayan.

“Absolutely, this will be an election issue. We should be asking our senatorial candidates on how they want their elected officials be penalized with regard to the impunity in the use of taxpayers’ money, or abuse in government coffers,” ayon kay Zamora.

“They (Senate bets) should also include in their platforms on how they intend to decide on those who commit what we call culpable violation of the Constitution. So, this is a big challenge and litmus test as to how strong the values of our candidates have on public service. Dapat maging independent sila,” giit pa ng lady solon.

Sa panig naman ni Rep. Rodge Gutierrez, kinatawan ng 1Rider party-list at miyembro ng 11-man House Prosecution Panel, ang impeachment case laban kay Duterte ay tiyak na magiging isang isyu sa mga kandidato ngayong panahon ng kampanya tuimatakbo man sa nasyunal o lokal na posisyon.

“This will definitely be an election issue and I think it should be welcomed. I think this is a sentiment already mentioned also by Senate President (Francis) Escudero that we can compare with the usual elections (before),” saad nito.

“Our take here is that voters should no longer base their preferences on popularity or personality politics. At least now, we already have an issue on how we think our senatorial candidates will fare with regard to the Duterte impeachment complaint,” punto pa ng mambabatas na isang ring abogado.

“It is in this regard that we can easily scrutinize their stand, on what will they do, how will they do it and what are their personal convictions. Although its not strictly a requirement for elections, the fact that it is happening now amid this context, I think it will really be an election issue,” saad pa ni Gutierrez.
