MAS naging pursigido ang Kamara de Representantes na protektahan ang interes ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) matapos ang talumpati ni Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida sa special joint session ng Kongreso, ayon kay Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

Sa kanyang makasaysayang talumpati nitong Sabado, inilahad ni Kishida na seryoso ang Japan na maging katuwang ang Pilipinas sa isyu ng seguridad at depensa.

“Prime Minister Kishida’s remarks prove that Japan is a dependable, eager, and stable partner of the Philippines in fostering international order. Together with like-minded nations such as the United States (US), we look forward to solidifying the cooperation blueprint with Japan,” sabi Speaker Romualdez, pinuno ng higit 300 kongresista ng Mababang Kapulungan.

Binigyang diin ni Kishida ang hangarin ng Japan na depensahan ang “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)” upang matiyak ang malaya at ligtas na padaan sa karagatan at himpapawid sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo.

Sinabi ni Kishida na nagbigay ang Japan ng 12 barko sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at isang kompanyang nakabase sa kanilang bansa ang nagbigay ng warning at control radar para sa Philippine Air Force (PAF) upang mapalakas ang kakayanan ng Pilipinas.

Maliban dito, may matatanggap din ang Philippine Navy na coastal surveillance radars mula pa rin sa Japan sa ilalim ng bagong tatag na Official Security Assistance (OSA).

Pinaplantsa na rin ang panukalang Japan-Philippines Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), na kanilang bersyon ng Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).

“We sincerely thank Prime Minister Kishida and the Japanese people for their generosity, they truly are a good friend of our country,” ani Speaker Romualdez

“Incidentally, we in the House of Representatives have also begun to take serious steps to augment the capabilities of our PCG, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other security agencies with the realignment of P1.23 billion in confidential funds under the P5.768-trillion General Appropriations Bill (GAB),” wika pa ng kinatawan ng unang distrito ng Leyte.

Binigyang halaga ni Speaker Romualdez ang mga pahayag ni Kishida sa panayam ng mga mamamahayag matapos ang joint session.

“Napakaganda nitong mga partnership na sinasabi ng mahal nating Senate President na inulat din ni Prime Minister Kishida, kaya gagawin din natin ‘yong mga dapat gawin din natin, sa budget natin, susuportahan natin ‘yong Coast Guard, ‘yong Navy, ‘yung Armed Forces…para mapatibay natin ang ating karapatan dito sa ating bansang Pilipinas, lalo na dito sa KIG, sa Kalayaan Island Group,” sabi ng House leader. Ang KIG at matatagpuan sa WPS.

Inilarawan din ni Speaker Romualdez na si Kishida bilang isang papa-usbong na world leader.

“Today, he affirmed that. He spoke of world peace, and regional security, and yet he had the compassion to speak about projects being downloaded here,” aniya.

Binalikan ni Romualdez ang isa sa mga pangako ni Pang. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa kaniyang kampanya na hindi mawawala kahit isang pulgada ng teritoryo ng bansa.

“I believe this was one of the main reasons why Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. won a historic majority mandate in May 2022. We support the President 100 percent in this declaration. Rest assured that as solons who possess the power of the purse, we will use the national budget to the fullest in protecting our maritime interests,” wika pa ng House Speaker.
