NAKIRAMAY si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa pagpanaw ni dating Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

“The Filipino people condole with the Russian people for the loss of a great leader in the person of Mikhail Gorbachev, and we pray he rests in peace,” sabi ni Marcos.

Sinabi ni Marcos na si Gorbachev ay nakilala sa “glasnost” o political reforms at “perestroika” o economic restructuring.

Maaalala umano si Gorbachev na kanyang pagbuwag sa kanyang sariling partido—ang Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).

“That the world is much safer now and there is greater freedom for millions of people in the former communist countries in Eastern Europe is in part because of Mr. Gorbachev’s political and economic reforms,” dagdag pa ni Marcos.

Nakipagkasundo si Gorbachev sa Estados Unidos na nagresulta sa pag-alis ng Iron Curtain na naghati sa Europa matapos ang World War II.

Namatay si Gorbachev sa edad na 91 matapos ang mahabang pakikipaglaban sa sakit.
