ISA umanong desperadong hakbang at publicity stunt ang pagtatangka ng kampo ni Vice President Sara Duterte na harangin sa Korte Suprema ang pag-usad ng impeachment case, ayon kay House impeachment prosecutor Rep. Jil Bongalon, kinatawan ng Ako Bicol Party-list.

“It’s panic mode now for VP Duterte,” ani Bongalon. “Kahit hindi pa namin nababasa ang petisyon, tiyak kami na ito’y dalawang bagay lamang: isang publicity stunt o hindi maitatagong patunay na ang kampo ni Vice President ay nasa panic mode.”

Tiniyak ni Bongalon na ang impeachment complaint laban kay Duterte, na inihain dalawang linggo na ang nakalilipas, ay nakasunod sa lahat ng mga constitutional requirements para sa paglilitis sa Senado.

“The Constitution sets clear and basic requirements for an impeachment complaint to move forward: it must be filed by at least one-third of the House of Representatives, verified, have the votes of each member recorded, and cannot be initiated more than once within a one-year period,” ayon kay Bongalon.

Binigyang-diin ng kongresista na ang impeachment ay isang prosesong pampulitika, hindi isang hudikaturang proseso.

“There is a reason for this. As ordained in the Constitution, impeachment is an act of political justice and an exception to the judiciary’s monopoly on deciding cases. Impeachment is purely a political exercise,” wika ni Bongalon.

Inakusahan ni Bongalon ang kampo ni Duterte ng paggamit ng mga taktika upang maantala ang proseso at mapigilan ang Senado na magsagawa ng paglilitis kung saan mabibigyan ng pampublikong pagsusuri ang mga ebidensya laban sa kanya.

“In their utter desperation, the Vice President’s camp is throwing the proverbial kitchen sink to stop the inevitable—for the Senate to commence trial and for the public to finally see the overwhelming and damning evidence against her,” dagdag ni Bongalon.

Hinamon pa ng House impeachment prosecutor ang kampo ni Duterte na itigil na ang mga taktika at direktang harapin ang mga akusasyon laban sa kanya.

“We challenge the Vice President’s camp to stop these stunts and face us in trial. The Filipino people deserve no less,” giit ni Bongalon.
