PINALAWAGI ng pagpupulong nina Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at US Vice President Kamala Harris ang mga bunga ng inisyatiba para isulong ang lalo pang pagpapatibay sa partnership ng Pilipinas at Amerika.

Ito ang sinabi ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez matapos ang pagkikita nina Pangulong Marcos, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, VP Harris at Second Gentleman Dough Emhoff sa Number One Observatory Circle, sa Washington D.C., ang opisyal na tahanan ng Ikalawang Pangulo ng Amerika.

Si Speaker Romualdez ay kasama ng mag-asawang Marcos sa naturang pagpupulong. Kasama rin nila sina Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, at House senior Deputy Majority Leader at Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos.

“It is heartening to note that during the meeting over coffee between President Marcos and VP Harris, the two officials reiterated their commitment to secure and advance the mutually beneficial initiatives she announced when she visited the Philippines,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

“It boosts our hope and confidence that effort to bolster the time-tested ties between the US and the Philippines would ultimately benefit the Filipino people in terms of increased foreign investments that would generate more jobs, livelihood as well as business opportunities for our people,” dagdag pa ng Speaker.

Sa naturang pagpupulong, sinabi ni VP Harris na ikinagagalak nito na naipagpatuloy ang mga hakbang na inumpisahan noong siya ay bumisita sa Pilipinas para patatagin ang relasyon ng dalawang bansa. Noong Nobyembre dumalaw si Harris sa Pilipinas.

Bukod sa mga inisyatiba para tugunan ang mga isyu ng climate change, energy security, at sustainable infrastructure, inanunsyo rin ni Harris ang negosasyon para sa isang civil nuclear cooperation agreement para sa zero-emission energy security initiative ng Pilipinas.

“The availability of cheap and reliable supply of electricity is indispensable in our effort to attract investments that would create more jobs and livelihood opportunities for our people and so he is exploring all viable alternatives, including renewables and nuclear energy, to achieve this end,” Speaker sabi ni Romualdez.

“I am confident that President Marcos’ official visit to the US would further advance his administration’s efforts in the area of energy security,” dagdag pa nito.

Nauna rito, nagpahayag ng interes ang top US nuclear energy firm na NuScale Power Corporation na magtayo ng advanced Small Modular Reactor (SMR) sa Pilipinas nang makipagpulong kay Pangulong Marcos.

Ayon sa NuScale plano nitong maglagak ng $6.5 bilyon hanggang $7.5 bilyong investment para sa pagtatayo ng 430 Megawatts na planta sa 2030.

Nakipagpulong din si Pangulong Marcos sa isa pang developer at supplier ng SMR at manufacturer ng solar panel.

Nang bumisita si Harris sa Pilipinas, muling iginiit ng Amerika na ipagtatanggol nito ang bansa sa ilalim ng 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.

Nang tanungin ng media, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na isang malaking isyu na kinakaharap ng Pilipinas ang nangyayari ngayon sa West Philippine Sea.

“As concerned as you could possibly be. It is one of the major issues that we have to face back home,” sabi ni Pangulong Marcos.

Ang pagpapatatag umano ng relasyon ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos ay isa sa mga hakbang upang mapanatili ang kapayapaan at seguridad sa rehiyon.

Batay sa fact sheet na inilabas ng White House, sinabi na tutulungan ng Amerika ang Pilipinas na palakasin ang maritime at tactical lift capability ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Plano umano ng Amerika na ibigay sa AFP ang dalawang Island-class patrol vessels, dalawang Protector-class patrol vessels, at tatlong C-130H aircraft.
