Vargas, Buhain nahalal sa PSI
NAHALAL si Michael Vargas bilang bagong pangulo ng Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI).
Si Vargas, na anak ni dating Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas, ay napili sa ginanap na election sa East Ocean Seafood Restaurant sa Parañaque City kamakailan.
“We are looking forward to a unifying, inclusive and working organization,” pahayag ni Vargas sa panayan matapos ang nasabing halalan.
“We have to help each other out for our swimmers and coaches,” dagdag pa niya.
Nahalal naman si two-time Olympian Rep. Eric Buhain bilang bagong secretary- general.
“I’m thankful to everyone after being elected as secretary-general. I really want to help the daily operation of the association,” sabi Buhain, na siya ding pangulo ng Congress of Philippine Aquatics Inc. (COPA).
“Mico Vargas is a long-time friend and a supporter. I know he can help the community,” dagdag pa ni Buhain, na dati ding nagsilbi bilang chairman ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Games and Amusements Board lGAB).
Sa kasakukuyan, siya din ay congressman para sa First District ng Batangas.
Kabilang sa mga nahalal din sina vice president Jessi Arriola, treasurer Marie Dimanche at members of the board of trustees Cris Bancal, Angelica Leonardo, Roel Rosales, Ronald Talosig, Isagani Corpuz, Jessie Lacuna at Emmanuel Manialung.
Ang election ng PSI ay isinagawa ayon sa direktiba mula sa World Aquatics, ang world governing body ng swimming, at sinubaybayan.ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), sa pamumuno ni POC president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.
“Our problem has been reduced. We’re very happy—very democratic—everything went through the process,” saad ni Tolentino, na nag-administer din ng oath of office sa mga bagong PSI officials.
“Very well represented and we really saw the essence of inclusivity in this exercise.”
Ang lahat ng bagong halal na mga opisyales ay magsisilbi sa transition period hanggang maisagawa ang regular elections alinsunod sa PSI charter sa 2025.
