HINAMON ni House special committee on bases conversion chairman Jay Khonghun si Vice President Sara Duterte na huwag ilihis ang isyu at sagutin ang mga alegasyon sa Articles of Impeachment na inihain ng Kamara de Representantes sa Senado.

Ginawa ni Khonghun ang pahayag matapos na akusahan ni Duterte ng korapsyon ang 2025 national badyet.

“Tama na ang diversion. Hindi na makakaiwas si VP sa pagsagot sa impeachment charges. Malapit na ang kanyang Senate trial,” ani Khonghun.

Ayon kay Khonghun, sa halip na maglabas ng panibagong isyu, dapat ay sagutin na lamang ng Bise Presidente ang mga paratang laban sa kanya, kabilang na ang diumano’y maling paggamit ng mahigit P600 milyon sa confidential at intelligence funds na natanggap ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) at Department of Education (DepEd) noong siya ang kalihim ng tanggapan.

Sinabi rin ni Khonghun na may hawak na matitibay na ebidensiya ang House prosecution panel upang patunayan ang maling paggamit ng nasabing pondo.

Dagdag pa niya, isa pang impeachment charge na may matibay na ebidensiya ay ang online na banta ng assassination na umano’y ginawa ng Bise Presidente laban kina Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos at Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

“Our prosecutors are confident that they can convince senator-judges to convict VP Duterte on the strength alone of these two charges,” dagdag pa ni Khonghun.

Batay sa naunang inilabas na timeline ni Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, magsisimula ang impeachment trial ni VP Duterte sa Hulyo 30, dalawang araw matapos ang pagbubukas ng 20th Congress.

Sa muling pagbuhay ni Duterte sa isyu ng korapsyon sa pag-apruba ng budget ngayong taon, sinabi rin ni Khonghun na si Duterte ay “showing her disrespect for the Supreme Court (SC) and the judicial process.”

“This matter has been brought to the Supreme Court by concerned citizens. In fact, the respondents have been required to comment on their petitions. So, let’s just await the decision of the high court. Let us not jump the gun on the tribunal,” ani Khonghun.
