Chambers balik-eksena para sa Gilas
MASASAKSIHAN muli ang matagumpay na tambalan nina dating PBA “Best Import” awardee Sean Chambers at coach Tim Cone.
Ito ay matapos na pormal na tanggapin ni Chambers ang alok ni Cone na magsilbing isa sa kanyang mga assistant coaches para sa Gilas Pilipinas team na sasabak sa FIBA Olympic QualifyingTournament sa Riga, Latvia sa susunod na buwan.
“We just looked around and said we’re short,” pahayag ni Cone sa panayam na unang nalathala sa official PBA website.
“Sean came at the last minute. He stepped in. He played with me for 13 years, he knows me personally as well as anybody I’ve ever met,” paliwanag ni Cone.
“Sean knows our system, he knows the Triangle, so he’s just the perfect guy. And if you have been around him, he’s always one of the most valuable people around you.”
Ang 59-year-old na si Chambers, na nanalo ng six championships sa Alaska Milk bilanf import mula 1989 hanggang 2001 at nahirang na PBA “Mr. 100 Percent” award nung 1991, ay unang bumalik sa bansa bilang head coach ng Far Eastern University sa UAAP.
Dahil dito, mas madali diumano na-imbita ni Cone si Chambers.
“We begged him and we begged FEU. Thank goodness, he said yes and FEU said yes,” dugtong pa ni Cone.
