Kumpiyansa ang National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) na unti-unti ng bababa ang inflation rate o ang bilis ng pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin.

Ayon kay NEDA chief Arsenio Balisacan mayroong mga hakbang na ginagawa ang gobyerno upang malimitahan ang pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin at maabot ang target na 3.5 hanggang 4 porsyento.

“We are actively monitoring the situation and implementing the necessary measures to ensure that by the end of the year, we should be on our target of roughly around 4 percent and at 3.5 percent. So we are on a downward trajectory already,” ani Balisacan.

Noong Marso ang inflation rate ay naitala sa 7.6 porsyento mas mababa sa 8.6 porsyento na naitala noong Pebrero.

Pasok ito sa forecast ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas na 7.4 porsyento hanggang 8.2 porsyento.

Nilinaw din ni Balisacan na ang pagbaba ng halaga ng piso laban sa dolyar ay hindi palaging negatibo ang epekto sa ekonomiya ng bansa.

“I think there are a lot of misconceptions about the weakening peso. When the peso depreciates, a bit not too much, because too much depreciation will cause instability and that could prevent investment,” sabi ni Balisacan.

“But, we think you know, allowing it to a lower level, like what it is now, can improve our competitiveness. Whether we are for the producers of local substitutes of imports or our exports,” dagdag pa nito.

Ang nais umano ng economic manager ay maging stable ang exchange rate upang madala ang ekonomiya sa direksyon ng pag-unlad.

“So the trick is to prevent sharp changes in those exchange rates because when you have that kind of world, it’s difficult to make decisions and therefore, investors will postpone their decisions… because they are not quite sure what the economic conditions are,” sabi pa ng opisyal.
