GAGAWA umano si Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez ng mga hakbang upang matiyak na hindi maiiwan ang mga kababaihang Pilipino sa pagpapalakas ng administrasyong Marcos ng digital public infrastructure (DPI) ng bansa.

Iginiit ni Romualdez na malaki ang papel ng mga kababaihan sa pagtatayo ng modernong lipunan kung saan sila ay dapat magkaroon ng patas na oportunidad na umunlad.

Ginawa ni Romualdez ang pahayag matapos na marinig ang talumpati ng pilantropo at women advocate na si Melinda French Gates sa World Bank (WB)-International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings.

“Melinda French Gates also mentioned how important the digital public infrastructure is to women’s empowerment. DPI provides them access to capital and opportunities. It gives them dignity and respect and allows them to engage in more activities,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Ginanap ang lecture noong Sabado sa headquarters ng IMF sa Washington DC sa Estados Unidos.

Hinangaan at na-inspire umano si Romualdez kay French Gates, ang co-founder ng Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, isa sa pinakamalaking pribadong charitable organization sa mundo.

Si French Gates, ang dating asawa ni Bill Gates na siyang co-founder ng Microsoft, ay sumulat kaugnay ng pagbibigay-kapangyarihan sa mga kababaihan sa larangan ng teknolohiya ay pagpaparami ng kanilang bilang sa lugar na dominado ng mga lalaki.

“French Gates’ words ring true in that even in this day and age, women are still marginalized professionally. We cannot keep ignoring this unfortunate situation if we are to truly have an inclusive society. Luckily, digitization can be the great equalizer and place women on equal footing as men in terms of work opportunities, power, and influence,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Noong Sabado, dumalo rin si Speaker Romualdez sa lecture tungkol sa digital public infrastructure (DPI) kug saan nakausap nito si Nandan Nilekani, isa sa founder ng Indian multinational information technology company na Infosys.

Ang DPI ay ang mga imprastrakturang pampubliko na magagamit ng publiko sa paggamit ng kanilang digital space.

Iminungkahi ni Speaker Romualdez ang pagkakaroon ng partnership ng Pilipinas, Estados Unidos, at India sa pagtatayo ng DPI.

“There should be no stopping women from being key players in this infrastructure. We will make sure to empower women in this regard through legislation, once we have laid down this digital public infrastructure,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Sa kanyang kapasidad bilang Speaker, tinulungan ni Romualdez ang mga hakbang upang mapalakas ang mga kababaihan sa Kamara de Representantes.

Sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Speaker Romualdez, ilang babaeng mambabatas ang nabigyan ng matataas na posisyon sa Mababang Kapulungan at mayroong malaking papel na ginagampanan sa operasyon ng Kamara.

“Women empowerment has definitely worked in our collective favor in the House of Representatives. To see this replicated across all workplaces through the flywheel of digitalization, will make French Gates proud,” sabi pa ng lider ng Kamara.

Noong Linggo, sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ang digitalization ang magbibigay-daan upang matugunan ang mga problemang iniwan ng Covid-19.

Sa ilalim ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. kinilala ng gobyerno ang kahalagahan ng digital transformation at gumagawa ng mga aksyon para maabot ito bago pa man ang WB-IMF Spring Meeting.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ang pagtatayo ng DPI ay nakalinya sa pangako ni Pangulong Marcos noong kampanya na pabibilisin ang digital transformation ng bansa.

“This is the reason why the House of Representatives has passed the E-Governance/E-Government Bill, which seeks to shift the entire bureaucracy to the digital space for faster and transparent delivery of services, and for better engagement with the public,” dagdag pa ni Speaker Romualdez.
