SA gitna ng pagdiriwang ng National Women’s Month, inanunsyo ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na simula sa Hulyo ay magbibigay ng libreng mammogram at ultrasound services para sa mga kababaihang miyembro ang Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Ginawa ni Romualdez ang anunsyo matapos ang pakikipagpulong nito sa mga opisyal ng Philhealth sa pangunguna ng pangulo at CEO nito na si Emmanuel Ledesma Jr., bago ito umalis kasama si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. patungo sa Berlin, Germany at Czech Republic.

“I commend PhilHealth for their swift action in responding to our call to provide free mammogram and ultrasound examinations to our women. This initiative reflects the commitment of the administration of President Marcos to prioritize the health and well-being of Filipino women, ensuring access to crucial preventive care,” sabi ni Romualdez.

“This is the best news we can give to the Filipino women, especially during Women’s Month,” dagdag pa ni Romualdez, lider ng Kamara na mayroong mahigit 300 miyembro.

Kasama ni Romualdez sa pakikipagpulong noong Lunes sa mga opisyal ng PhilHealth si House Deputy Majority Leader at ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo.

Dumalo rin sa pagpupulong sina Atty. Eli Dino Santos, PhilHealth Executive Vice President, at Chief Operating Officer (COO), Renato Limsiaco Jr., Senior Vice President ng Fund Management Sector (FMS) ng PhilHealth, at Dr. Francisco Sarmiento III, chief of program management team para sa primary care provider network ng PhilHealth.

“We will deliver, sir. We will not fail you; we need to deliver. We are really confident that we will be able to fulfill your request,” sabi ni Ledesma kasabay ang pagtitiyak na maipatutupad ang libreng mammogram at ultrasound sa Hulyo.

Iginiit ni Speaker Romualdez ang kahalagahan ng mammogram at ultrasound services sa kalusugan ng mga kababaihan.

“Early detection is key in addressing various health concerns, and by removing financial barriers to these essential services, PhilHealth is helping to save lives and promote a healthier future for our women,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Ayon sa lider ng Kamara ang pagkakaroon ng libreng mammogram at ultrasound sa mga kababaihan ay personal na adbokasiya ng kanyang misis na si Tingog Partylist Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez.

Umaasa naman si Speaker Romualdez na gaganda pa ang relasyon ng Kamara at PhilHealth upang mas makapagbigay ito ng mas magandang benepisyo sa publiko.

“As representatives of the people, we are sensitive to the needs of our constituents, we are sensitive to the needs of our people. Together, through collaborative efforts and initiatives, we can work towards achieving better health outcomes and a brighter future for all Filipinos as envisioned by President Marcos,” dagdag pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Sinabi naman ni Ledesma na handa ang PhilHealth na makipagtulungan sa Kamara upang mapaganda ang serbisyong hatid ng ahensya.

“Alam nyo po ang pulso ng tao, alam nyo po kung ano ang gusto nila. Let us know how we can assist,” sabi ng opisyal ng PhilHealth.

Matatandaan na itinaas ng PhilHealth ng 1,400% ang ‘Z benefit package’ nito para sa mga pasyenteng may breast cancer o mula P100,000 ay naging P1.4 milyon matapos na hilingin ni Speaker Romualdez na itaas ang benepisyong ito.

Noong nakaraang linggo, ipinarating ni Tulfo ang nais ni Speaker Romualdez na bilisan ng PhilHealth ang implementasyon ng libreng mammograms, ultrasounds, at iba pang test para sa mga kababaihan sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Senior Citizens, at Special Committee on Persons with Disabilities.

“Pwede po ba gawing libre na ang mammogram para sa mga kababaihan natin. I think nasa top five po ng causes of death ng Filipino women ang cancer of the breast,” sabi ni Tulfo.

Batay sa mga datos hanggang noong Agosto 2023, umaabot sa 86,484 kaso ng kanser ang naiatatala sa bansa kada taon kung saan 27,163 ang breast cancer. Sa kaparehong ulat, 9,926 Pilipino naman ang nasasawi sanhi ng breast cancer, ang ikatlong pinakamapanganib na uri ng kanser sa mga kababaihan.
