Pinuri ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez ang Gilas Pilipinas sa 89-80 panalo nito kontra Latvia, na pang anim sa world basketball ranking, sa ginanap na 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament noong Huwebes.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ipinakita ng Gilas Pilipinas ang kanilang hindi natitinag na diwa na katawanin ang Pilipinas sa prestihiyosong kompetisyon.

“It is with great pride and heartfelt congratulations that I commend Gilas Pilipinas for their historic victory against Latvia in an official FIBA tournament. This triumph, ending a 64-year drought of wins against European teams, is glaring proof to the unwavering spirit, dedication and perseverance of our national basketball team,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Pinangunahan ni coach Tim Cone ang Gilas Pilipinas sa laban sa ginanap sa Arena Riga.

“Hindi lamang ito simpleng panalo sa scoreboard, kundi isang panalo para sa puso ng bawat atletang nangangarap na irepresent ang Pilipinas sa pandaigdigang kompetisyon. Nagsisilbi itong inspirasyon sa maraming Pilipino na magpursige dahil iba ang talento ng mga Pilipino,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez, ang lider ng Kamara na mayroong mahigit 300 kinatawan.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ipinakita ng panalo ng Gilas ang katatagan ng bawat manlalaro sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Coach Cone.

“The match against Latvia showcased our team’s skill and grit. Gilas Pilipinas played with a passion and intensity that inspired all who watched. This victory is a shining example of our players’ ability to rise to the occasion and overcome the formidable challenge posed by a strong European team,” saad pa ng lider ng Kamara.

Bilang lider ng Kamara, tiniyak ni Speaker Romualdez ang pagsuporta hindi lamang sa Gilas Pilipinas kundi sa lahat ng mga manlalaro na kakatawan sa Pilipinas sa international events.
