INIHAIN ni OFW Party List Cong. Marissa “Del Mar” P. Magsino ang isang resolution sa Kamara de Representantes na naglalayong magkaroon ng masusing imbestigasyon sa kalagayan ng mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) sa South Korea.

Nakapaloob sa House Resolution No. 1343 ni Magsino ang pakiusap nito sa Kongreso sa pamamagitan ng mga concerned committees.

Ayon kay Magsino, may mga natatanggap umano siyang impormasyon na hindi maganda ang kasalukuyang kondisyon ng mga OFW sa South Korea. Hindi umano maayos ang pagrato sa kanila ng kanilang mga employer, kakulangan ng maayos o disenteng pagkain, karumal-dumal na tirahan o lodging at sobra-sobra sa oras na pagta-trabaho nila.

“Concerns have risen regarding the working conditions and treatment of these Filipino seasonal workers in Korea. Reports indicate occasional provision of decent meals, undesirable lodging facilities that violate contractual terms, eccessive hours and allegations of inhuman treatment.

Binigyang diin ni Magsino na dahil may “agreement” sa pamamagitan lamang ng LGU-to-LGU sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at South Korea, hindi aniya dumaan sa mahigpit na screening at pagsusuri ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ang nasabing agreement sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.

“During our town hall meeting with leaders of the Filipino Community in South Korea last June, 2023. We were informed of labor standard violations against seasonal workers. And since the program stems mainly from LGU-to-LGU agreements, the implementation system does not go through stringent screening of the Demartment of Migrant Workers,” ayon kay Magsino.
