TULOY-TULOY ang gagawing pagbabantay ng House committee on agriculture and food sa presyo ng bigas, sibuyas at iba pang produktong agrikultural.

“Upon the instruction of our Speaker Martin G. Romualdez and in line with the desire of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to make food products affordable, we will observe and address food inflation,” sabi ni Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga, chairman ng komite.

Magpapatawag aniya ang komite ng mga pagdinig at pagsisiyasat at magdaraos ng konsultasyon sa mga stakeholder kung kinakailangan, upang mapigilan ang hindi makatwirang pagtaas sa presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin.

“We will not be intimidated by pressure from any source. We are here to serve our people’s interests under the PBBM administration,” ani Enverga

Iginiit ni Enverga na hindi magpapatinag ang Kamara sa mga kritisismo matapos nitong ilipat ang confidential and intelligence funds (CIF) ng ilang ahensya para mapalakas ang paninindigan nito sa West Philippine Sea.

“That’s water under the bridge now because the House has already decided to realign those funds to agencies concerned with the country’s security and territorial integrity. Those affected should respect the House decision,” diin ni Enverga

Sa unang bahagi ng taon, ikinasa ng komite ni Enverga ang apat na buwang pagsisiyasat sa biglang pagtaas ng presyo ng sibuyas ng umabot ng hanggang hanggang P800 kada kilo.

Nagresulta naman ito sa pagbaba ng presyo na naging P160 kada kilo.

Ang mga nadiskubre sa imbestigasyon ay nagamit ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sa pagsasampa ng kaso laban sa tatlong opisyal ng Department of Agriculture at tatlong opisyal ng isang kooperatiba.

Pinuri naman ni Speaker Romualdez ang NBI at Department of Justice sa paghahain ng kaso.

“We welcome this result and we expect prosecutors to make the charges stick. We will continue to monitor prices and we will not hesitate to exercise our power of oversight by conducting an investigation and prodding agencies so we can protect the public from high prices and inflation,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Pinasalamatan din nito si Enverga at ang nanguna sa pagtatanong na si Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo, sa isinagawang malalim at matagumpay na pagsisiyasat.

Una nang inanunsyo ni Justice Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla na nagsampa ng kaso ang NBI laban sa mga nasa likod ng pagtatago ng suplay ng sibuyas at manipulasyon ng presyo nito.

Kasong paglabag sa Republic Act (RA) No. 3019 (Anti Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) ang inihain laban kina DA Assistant Secretary Kristine Evangelista, Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service officer in charge Junibert de Sagun at Bureau of Plant Industry Director Gerald Panganiban.

Bukod pa ito sa kasong administratibo dahil sa kakulangan at kapabayaan sa kanilang mandato salig sa Revised Administrative Code.

Kasong hoarding, falsification at profiteering naman ang isinampa laban kina Israel Reguyal, Mary Ann dela Rosa at Victor dela Rosa Jimenez na mga opisyal ng Bonena Multipurpose Cooperative.
