INUMPISAHAN ng 38 kandidata ng Miss Universe Philippines ang kanilang limang araw na Eastern Visayas tour sa pamamagitan ng isang Flores de Mayo motorcade sa Tacloban City.

Ito ay bahagi ng National Costume Competition (NatCos) ng beauty pageant patungo sa gabi ng koronasyon sa Mayo 13 sa Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena sa Pasay City.

Host ng NatCos contest ang tanggapan nina Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez at Tingog Party list Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez at Jude Acidre, City Government ng Tacloban, Department of Tourism Region VIII, Provincial Government ng Leyte, Provincial Government ng Samar at Eastern Visayas.

“This competition, although non-points bearing event, is the most anticipated portion by pageant enthusiasts. The MUPh will determine our next crowned queen who will represent our country on the world stage. We are all excited because the Miss Universe title has been held by many Filipino citizens,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

“At talaga namang pinapahanga natin ang buong mundo sa kagandahan at kagalingan ng mga Pilipina. When the Miss Universe competition is on, a majority of Filipinos watch it with pride, knowing we always have a chance of winning the title,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Umaasa si Speaker Romualdez at Rep. Romualdez na makatutulong ang limang araw na pagbisita ng mga kandidato sa Eastern Visayas upang ma-promote ang kanilang lugar.

“This is also an opportunity to show the country and the whole world the beauty and wonders that Eastern Visayas can offer. It has been 10 years since Yolanda leveled our region. Pero dahil sa pagsisikap at pagpupunyagi ng mga waraynons, nakabangon kami at nakausad pa mula sa trahedya,” sabi ni Rep. Romualdez, na dating Binibining Pilipinas International 1996.

“Eastern Visayas has risen from the ill effects of the Yolanda tragedy and is thriving! We hope the Miss Universe Philippines pageant helps us get our message through,” dagdag pa ng lady solon.

Bilang host, ang Tingog party-list ang pipili ng tatlong Tingog ng Pilipina Awardees tig-isa sa Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao.

Sila ay idedeklarang nanalo sa national costume competition at pararangalan sa Mayo 4.

Matapos ang motorcade, ang mga kandidata ay nakatakdang mag-cruise sa San Juanico bridge, na nagdurugtong sa Tacloban City sa Leyte, at Santa Rita, Samar. Mahigit dalawang kilometro ang haba nito.

Sa ikalawang araw ng pagbisita, ang mga kandidato ay pupunta sa Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge; Secret Kitchens of Samar Food Festival; Banig Weaving sa Saob Cave; St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church at Banig Fashion Show; at fellowship dinner sa Leyte Provincial Capitol.

Sa ikatlong araw, ang mga kandidato ay pupunta sa Kalanggaman Island sa Palompon, Leyte. Isang dinner naman ang ihahanda para sa kanila ng mga opisyal ng Tingog Party list at Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

Sa ikaapat na araw isasagawa ang NatCos competition na mayroong tatlong bahagi: ang photoshoot sa Sta. Fe, Leyte; costume rehearsal sa Leyte Normal University (LNU); at ang aktwal na kompetisyon sa LNU.

Sa huling araw ng 5-day tour, ang mga kandidata ay mayroong breakfast kasama si Rep. Romualdez sa Nipa Hut sa Tacloban City bago sila pumunta sa SOS Children’s Village.

Mayroon din silang Tacloban and Palo cultural and heritage tour kung saan pupunta sila sa Astrodome Yolanda Memorial Park, Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Niño, Price Mansion, Sto. Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum at Anibong Shipwreck, sa Tacloban; at McArthur Landing Memorial National Park, Leyte Provincial Government Complex at courtesy call kay Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla, sa Palo.

Ang huling item sa itinerary ay ang pagdalaw sa Yolanda Mass Graves.
