NAGHAIN si Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan ng resolusyon upang parangalan ang anim na Pilipinong siyentipiko na napabilang sa 2026 Asian Scientist 100 list.

Inihain ni Pangilinan ang Proposed Senate Resolution No. 462 upang kilalanin sina Marcela M. Navasero, Romulo G. Davide, Mary Donnabelle L. Balela, Garry A. Benico, Aurelio A. de los Reyes V at May Anne E. Mata.

“Their dedication to scientific excellence and innovation will inspire future generations of Filipinos to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” sabi ni Pangilinan.

Binanggit sa resolusyon ang ambag ng mga Filipino honorees sa agricultural science, environmental protection, marine and aquatic bio-sciences, mathematical sciences, at infectious disease modeling.

Pinangunahan ni Navasero ang pananaliksik sa natural pest control at agricultural biosecurity, habang kinilala si Davide bilang “Father of Philippine Nematology” dahil sa kanyang trabaho sa plant pathology at nematology.

Nakapag-develop naman si Balela ng modular kapok booms para sa marine oil spills, habang pinangunahan ni Benico ang mga pag-aaral sa taxonomy at diversity ng harmful microalgae.

Kinilala si De los Reyes sa kanyang trabaho sa infectious disease modeling at sa paggamit ng dynamical systems at equations sa biological processes.

Si Mata naman ay kinilala sa kanyang pananaliksik sa infectious disease modeling and analysis, applied mathematics, mathematical biology at operations research.

Dapat bigyang-pansin ng pagkilalang ito ang pangangailangang suportahan ang research and development at palakasin ang scientific at academic institutions.

“This recognition proves that Filipino ingenuity and talent can compete with the best in the region and the world.

It is also a reminder of the need for us to support research and development and strengthen our scientific and academic institutions to create opportunities for Filipinos to contribute to nation-building through science,” sabi ni Pangilinan.

Ang Asian Scientist Magazine ang naglalathala ng Asian Scientist 100, isang taunang listahan na kumikilala sa outstanding researchers at scientific leaders sa Asia-Pacific region.
