NANAWAGAN si Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na gawing mas simple, maginhawa at mabilis ang proseso ng pagrerehistro ng subscriber identity modules (SIM) sa gitna ng mga ulat na milyun-milyon pang mobile phone user ang hindi pa nakakapagparehistro.

Ayon kay Speaker Romualdez dapat magtulungan ang Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) at ang tatlong telecommunications companies (telcos) na nagbibigay ng cellular phone services sa naturang proseso.

“Let us help millions of Filipinos who have mobile phones, but who still have not registered their SIMs as required by law, to register. Let us make it easier for them to take advantage of the 90-day registration extension granted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Nagpasalamat din si Speaker Romualdez sa Pangulo sa pagpapalawig nito ng deadline alang-alang sa mga hindi pa nagpaparehistro.

“In particular, let us assist overseas Filipino workers and their families to register. Their mobile phones are their principal means of communicating and connecting to each other. The thought that they could instantly make audio-video calls eases the pain of being thousands of miles away from home and from their loved ones,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Ayon kay Romualdez dapat tumulong din ang Department of Migrant Workers at Department of Foreign Affairs sa DICT, NTC at telcos upang maipaalam sa mga OFW at kanilang pamilya ang pangangailangan na magparehistro.

“I suspect that OFW families in the provinces are finding it difficult to comply with the registration requirement. Some may even be unaware of it,” dagdag pa ng lider ng Kamara.

Naniniwala si Speaker Romualdez na maraming OFW at kanilang pamilya sa bansa ang gumagamit ng prepaid SIM dahil madaling makakuha nito.

Pinuri naman ng lider ng Kamara ang mga telco sa kanilang mga hakbang upang mahikayat ang kanilang mga subscriber na makapagparehistro.

Gayunpaman, sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na dapat palawigin pa ng mga ito ang kanilang paghahanap sa mga taong hindi pa nakakapagparehistro upang hindi maputol ang serbisyo sa mga ito.

“That is to the benefit of the telcos, financially,” sabi pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Ayon sa ulat, hanggang noong Abril 23 ay 82.8 milyong SIM na ang nairehistro.

Sa bilang na ito, 39.9 milyon ang nagrehistro sa Smart Communications, 37.09 milyon sa Globe Telecom, at 5.79 milyon sa DITO Telecommunity Corp.

Mayroong ulat na nagsasabi na 165 milyon hanggang 170 milyong SIM card ang naibenta ng tatlong telcos.

Umapela rin si Speaker Romualdez sa mga telco na ilabas ang bilang ng kanilang mga postpaid mobile phone subscriber at ang mga aktibong SIM card na hindi pa nairerehistro.

“Their combined data should give us, the public, an idea of how many SIMs, postpaid and prepaid, need to be registered,” dagdag pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Dapat din umanong ilabas ng mga telco ang datos kung ilang SIM card na kanilang naibenta ang in-active na.
