KINAKATIGAN at sinusuportahan ngayon ng isang neophyte Metro Manila congressman ang agarang pagkakaloob ng kompensasyon para sa mga tinatawag na “mental health users” bilang paggunita sa pagdiriwang ng National Mental Health Week.

Isinusulong ni Quezon City 5th Dist. Cong. Patrick Michael “PM” D. Vargas ang agarang pagkakaloob ng kompensasyon at benepisyo para sa mga mental health users sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11036 o mas kilala bilang Mental Health Act.

Sinabi ni Vargas na inihain niya ang House Bill No. 2789 sa Kamara de Representantes na naglalayong amiyendahan ang RA No. 11036 sa pamamagitan ng pagsususog ng mga bagong provisions sa ilalim ng “Rights of Service Users.

Ipinaliwanag ni Vargas na isinasaad ng “Rights of Service Users” ang mabilis na pagkakaloob ng compensation benefits at iba pang special financial assistance sa oras na ang isang health service users ay magkaroon ng temporary o permanent mental disability habang ginagampanan nila ang kanilang tungkulin sa isang partikular na tanggapan.

“The said bill sheds light on the struggles of Filipino workers and the risks that come with work-related stress, which according to experts can lead to several mental health problems such as depression or even dementia. “Filipino workers are hardworking and resilient,” ayon kay Vargas.

Sinabi pa ni Vargas na: “In 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) estimated that at least 3.6 million Filipinos are facing mental health issues during the pandemic, including depression, substance use disorders such as alcohol use disorder, and mood disorders like bipolar disorder”.
