MAHIGIT dalawang milyong international tourist arrival na ang naitala ng Department of Tourism (DOT).

Ayon kay Tourism Secretary Christina G. Frasco ito ay lagpas na sa baseline target na 1.7 milyon.

Sinabi ni Frasco na 2,002,304 international visitor ang dumating sa Pilipinas mula Enero 1 hanggang Mayo 12.

“Notwithstanding our challenges and difficulties that our country has faced, a pandemic and the various calamities that come into our shores the good news is that this has done nothing to break the Filipino spirit or to diminish the beauty of the Philippines,” ani Frasco.

Kumpiyansa si Frasco na ang Pilipinas ay magiging “tourism powerhouse in Asia” dahil sa pagbibigay dito ng prayoridad ng kasalukuyang administrasyon.

“We are at the cusp of the massive success of tourism in the Philippines. You can feel it, you can hear it, you can see it, it’s our time Philippines, it’s out time to become Asia’s leading tourism powerhouse and with your help, we can achieve just that,” sabi ni Frasco.

Pinakamalaking bulto umano ng mga international visitor ang galing ng South Korea. Umabot ito sa 487,502 o 24.35 porsyento ng kabuuang bumisitang dayuhan.

Sumunod dito ang Estados Unidos (352, 894 o 17.62 porsyento), Australia (102, 494 o 5.12 porsyento), Canada (98, 593 o 4.92 porsyento), Japan (97,329 o 4.86 porsyento), China (75,043), Taiwan (62,654), United Kingdom (62,291), Singapore (53,359), at Malaysia (36,789).

Ayon sa DOT ang inbound tourist receipts mula Enero hanggang Abril ay umabot sa P168.52 bilyon, mas mataas ng 782.59 porsyento kumpara sa kinita ng turismo sa kaparehong panahon noong nakaraang
