BALANGA CITY, Bataan–Mas malaki na ang kita ngayon ng mga midwife kumpara sa mga nurses, sabi ni Dr. Ruby Santos-Matibag, presidente ng Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU).

“Since the midwifery course has been upgraded into a bachelor’s degree (four year course), midwives now command a bigger salary than nurses do,” paliwanag ng presidente ng school.

Ayon kay Dr. Matibag, hindi pa alam ng public ang good news sa mga midwives bigger dahil kulang pa sa promotion at marketing.

“Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) is now a four-year ladderized degree program designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in helping women in their childbearing cycle and birthing process,” ayon sa opisyal.

“We in BPSU have consistently topped in the midwifery examination board for the last three years,” ani Matibag.

Samantala, libu-libong estudyante ang hindi nakapag enrol ngayong semester dahil sa matinding kakulangan ng nursing teachers at school rooms sa BPSU.

Umabot sa 5,000 would-be nursing students ang gustong kumuha ng nursing course ngunit nabigo dahil sa kakulangan ng professors na magtuturo at shortage ng classrooms.

Sinabi ni Dr. Matibag na ang quota nila sa bagong nursing students ngayong taon 160 lamang.

Napag alaman na halos 1,000 ang nakapasa sa nursing examination entrance.

“We are going to ask for the construction of more building facilities and additional professors for nursing to accommodate more students,” sabi ni Matibag.

Nakapagtala ang BPSU ng 72.22 percent overall passing rate performance, mas mataas kumpara sa national passing rate, ayon sa official.

Ang passing general average 70%.

May anim na campuses ang BPSU sa Bataan at 20,020 students.

Kilala ang BPSU bilang “performing best in its engineering, medical and teaching courses.”

Dahil sa outstanding education performance nito, pinuri ng Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III ang leadership BPSU dahil sa galing nito bilang unibersidad.

Kinikilala rin ang BPSU bilang “Top 5 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region III and in the Top 50 in all of the Philippines as well.”
