ANG pakikipagpulong ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. sa Washington kasama sina US President Joe Biden at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ay inaasahan umano na magdadala ng katatagan at kapayapaan sa Indo-Pacific region sa gitna ng ginagawa panghihimasok ng China sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).

“We hope that with this Trilateral Summit, the heightened tensions in the WPS will be reduced, if not totally stopped. These were brought about by the unprovoked actions of Beijing where their vessels have been hitting ours with water canons,” ani House Assistant Majority Leader at La Union 1st District Rep. Paolo P. Ortega V, miyembro ng Young Guns o grupo ng mga aktibong lider ng Kamara.

“This is a step in the right direction. We need all the support we can get from our usual allies in the international community. We also need them to guide us how to deal with such a recurring problem, since China has been doing this despite our complaints,” sabi pa ni Ortega, na ang probinsya ay nakaharap sa WPS.

Umaasa si Ortega na ang pakikipagpulong ni Pangulong Marcos ay magreresulta sa pag-atras ng China sa ginagawa nitong panghihimasok sa Exclusive Economic Zone ng bansa.

“We cannot afford to just let their (Chinese) vessels block our ships and prevent our fishermen from getting their daily livelihood in our very own shores. That is simply not fair, to say the least,” saad pa ni Ortega.

Binigyan-diin ng mambabatas ang kahalagahan ng summit, na isa umanong paraan upang magkaroon ng malalim na pag-uusap kaugnay ng mga pangyayari sa karagatang sakop ng Zambales at Palawan na nakakaapekto sa pamumuhay ng mga mangingisdang Pilipino at sa resupply mission sa BRP Sierra Madre sa Ayungin Shoal.

Pinuri rin ni Ortega si Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa pagtulong umano nito upang mabawasan ang bigat ng trabaho ng Pangulo na maraming kinakaharap na problema para mabigyan ng maayos na kinabukasan ang mga Pilipino.
