NANINIWALA ang isang miyembro ng House prosecution panel na hindi na kailangan na magpatawag ang Pangulo ng special session para masimulan ng Senado ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.

Sinabi ni San Juan Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora, isang abogado, na ang Senado, alinsunod sa mandato nito sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon, ay isa nang impeachment court kahit sa panahon ng recess at hindi kinakailangang ipatawag ng Pangulo ang isang espesyal na sesyon.

“As to that, we don’t need a special session because the Constitution is clear that trial shall forthwith proceed. For us, the Senate is already the impeachment court even if it is on recess,” ani Zamora, isang miyembro ng 11-man House prosecution panel.

Pinagtibay rin niya ang desisyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. na hindi makialam, binigyang-diin ang prinsipyo ng paghihiwalay ng kapangyarihan sa pagitan ng mga sangay ng gobyerno.

“The executive is a separate branch of government; thus it is right for the President not to call for a special session,” dagdag pa niya.

Binigyang-diin naman ni House Assistant Majority Leader Jil Bongalon ng Ako Bicol Party-list na hindi pa natatanggap ng Kamara ang kopya ng petisyong umano’y isinampa ng kampo ng Bise Presidente upang kuwestyunin ang impeachment proceedings.

“We have not yet received a copy of the order, but definitely we will comply. We are confident that the Supreme Court will not intervene,” ani Bongalon, isang abogado at miyembro rin ng House prosecution panel.

Samantala, sinabi ni 1RIDER Partylist Rep. Rodge Gutierrez, isa ring abogado at miyembro ng House prosecution team, na ang posisyon ng Malacañang hinggil sa espesyal na sesyon ay tugma sa mga nauna nitong pahayag kaugnay ng impeachment process.

“This seems to be consistent with the Palace’s first pronouncements on the possibility of calling for a special session,” ani Gutierrez.

Muli niyang binigyang-diin na ang responsibilidad ng pagtitipon bilang impeachment court ay nakasalalay sa Senado, alinsunod sa Konstitusyon.

“But in any case, if we look at the Constitution, this is a responsibility that primarily falls on the Senate. We respectfully and eagerly anticipate the Senate’s action on this matter,” dagdag pa niya.

Handa ang House prosecution panel na iharap ang kanilang kaso laban sa Bise Presidente sa sandaling magtipon ang Senado upang simulan ang paglilitis.
