NAHARANG ng Bureau of Customs – Port of Subic ang mahigit 30,000 sako ng refined sugar na nagkakahalaga ng P150 milyon sa Subic Bay Freeport Zone sa Olongapo City, Zambales noong Marso 2.

Nakatanggap ng impormasyon ang BOC mula sa Department of Agriculture (DA) kaugnay ng pagdating ng hindi deklaradong asukal kaya naglabas si District Collector Maritess Martin ng Pre-Lodgement Control Orders at Alert Orders.

Pinangunahan naman ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio kasama sina Martin, DA Assistant Secretary James Layug, at Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman at Administrator Rolen C. Paulino ang pagsusuri sa 58 container kung saan nahanap ang mahigit 30,000 sako ng misdeclared refined sugar na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P150 milyon.

Magpapalabas ng warrant of seizure and detention ang BOC kaugnay ng paglabag sa Republic Act 10863 o Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), at Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2002 sa pagitan ng BOC at Sugar Regulatory Authority.

Sinuri rin ng BOC ang dalawang container ng squid rings na hinaluan umano ng iba’t ibang frozen meat product na hindi idineklara. Nagkakahalaga ito ng P40 milyon.

Maglalabas din ang BOC ng WSD laban sa hindi deklaradong meat product dahil sa paglabag sa CMTA.

“The BOC continues to maximize its intelligence resources and intensify enforcement measures to thwart all attempts of smuggling, especially those involving agricultural products that negatively impact our local farmers and businesses,” sabi ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio.

“It has always been a priority of the BOC to protect local consumers against the health hazards posed by these illegally imported goods,” dagdag pa nito.
