SINURI nina Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Atty. Don Artes at Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ang mobile pumping unit sa Roxas Boulevard na makakatulong na maibsan ang pagbaha sa lungsod.

Ang pag-iinspeksiyon ay isinagawa batay sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. sa lahat ng ahensiya ng pamahalaan na tiyakin ang kahandaan sa paghagupit ng bagyong Opong sa National Capital Region (NCR).

Binigyang diin ni Artes ang kahalagahan ng mobile pump unit sa mga lugar na malimit bahain partikular ang Roxas Boulevard.

“This is one of the innovations the MMDA is deploying to address localized flooding. The mobile pump has a capacity of one cubic meter per second — enough to fill one and a half Olympic-size swimming pool in just an hour,” sabi ni Artes.

Ipinaliwanag niya na kapag high tide, ibinabalik ng mobile pumping unit ang tubig sa kalsada sa Manila Bay kaya’t hindi umaapaw ang tubig sa mga imburnal.

Anim ang kasalukuyang mobile pumping unit na inilagay ng MMDA sa Metro Manila kabilang na sa World Trade Center, Pasay City, SM Sucat, Parañaque City, Elliptical Road fronting East Avenue, Quezon City, Ortigas Extension (Buli Creek to SM East), Pasig City, JW Diokno Boulevard near the Senate Building, Pasay City, at sa Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Lubos naman ang pasasalamat na ipinaabot ni Mayor Isko Moreno sa MMDA sa patuloy na pagtulong sa kanilang lungsod. “This kind of innovative, pragmatic, and practical approach may help significantly reduce water levels during typhoons,” sabi ng alkalde.
