KINONDENA ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang pagpaslang sa beteranong brodkaster na si Percival “Percy Lapid” C. Mabasa, na nakilala sa kanyang adbokasiya laban sa pang-aabuso at iregularidad sa gobyerno.

Pinagtibay ng Kamara ang House Resolution 489 na inihain nina Speaker Martin G. Romualdez, House Majority Leader at Zamboanga City Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe, at House Minority Leader at 4Ps party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan.

“Local and international journalists were outraged and deeply saddened by the killing of Mr. Percival ‘Percy Lapid’ C. Mabasa, and they considered this dastardly act as an attack to the freedom of speech and of the press that must be stopped in order to save and maintain democracy,” sabi sa HR 89.

Pinagtibay ng Kamara ang naturang resolusyon sa sesyon nito noong Nobyembre 7 sa pamamagitan ng voice voting.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives, to condemn in the strongest possible terms, the senseless killing of veteran broadcaster Percival ‘Percy Lapid’ C. Mabasa and to express grave concern for the safety and security of journalists in the country,” sabi pa sa resolusyon.

Si Mabasa ay pinagbabaril sa Sta. Cecilia Village, Las Piñas City noong Oktobre 3.

Siya ay nagsilbi sa broadcasting industry sa nakalipas na apat na dekada at nagkaroon ng mga programa sa iba’t ibang istasyon ng radyo gaya ng DZME, DWBC, DZRM, DWIZ, DZRJ at DWBL. Siya ay kolumnista rin ng Hataw at JSY Publications.

Si Mabasa ay mayroon ding YouTube channel na tinawag nitong “Lapid Fire.”

Siya ay ipinanganak noong Marso 14, 1959 sa Tuguegarao.
