Sa suporta na madepensahan ang bansa 

NAGPASALAMAT si Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. sa Kamara de Representantes na pinamumunuan ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa kanilang pagsuporta upang mapalakas ang pagdepensa ng bansa sa teritoryo nito partikular sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Ginawa ni Brawner ang pahayag matapos nitong samahan si Romualdez at ilan pang kongresista sa kanilang pagbisita sa Pag-asa Island noong Huwebes.

“The name of the game in the WPS is effective presence. It means whoever is there has control of that specific area,” sabi ni Brawner sa press conference sa Manila Golf Club sa Makati City na ipinatawag matapos ang kanilang pagbisita sa isla.

Ayon kay Brawner ang Pag-asa island ang sumisimbolo at kumakatawan sa suberenya at karapatan ng bansa sa lugar.

Pinuri ni Brawner si Speaker Romualdez sa pangako nito na tutulungang mapataas ang seguridad ng bansa kasama ang pagsuporta sa AFP upang mapangalagaan ang interes ng Pilipinas sa WPS.

Nagpasalamat din si Brawner sa pagsama sa kanya ni Romualdez sa Pag-asa at binanggit ang naging pag-unlad ng lugar mula sa pagkakaroon ng sementadong runway, pagdami ng lugar na mayroong kuryente, mga bagong pasilidad, at mas maayos na pantalan para sa mga lokal na mangingisda.

“Well, of course, that makes me feel very happy. In fact, I’m happy that the speaker invited me to come with him to Pag-asa. This is my third time to visit the island, Pag-asa Island. And the last time I was there, the runway, the surface of the runway was still dirt. But this time when we landed, we landed on concrete. It was very nice. It was extended. And I also saw that there was electricity already in the area. The last time I was there, there was no electricity,” kuwento ni Brawner.

Iginiit naman ni Brawner ang pangangailangan na lalo pang pa-unlarin ang Pag-asa Island kasama ang iba pang lugar sa WPS kung saan mayroong mga Pilipino.

Sinabi nito na ang AFP ay humihingi ng dagdag na pondo mula sa Kongreso upang mas maging maayos din ang kalagayan ng mga sundalong idinidestino doon gayundin ang mga lokal na residente.

Bilang tugon, pinuri naman ni Speaker Romualdez si Brawner at iginiit ang pagsuporta ng Kamara sa AFP.

“Maraming salamat to the Chief of Staff and the men and women of the AFP. You make us very proud and help is on its way. We have no less than the House leadership and the appropriations chairman Zaldy Co of Ako Bicol partylist there, and we saw for ourselves how important the service and the sacrifice you all do out there for us in Kalayaan,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Kinilala rin ni Speaker Romualdez ang kahalagahan ng papel na ginampanan ng AFP upang matiyak na magiging matagumpay ang biyahe ng mga kongresista sa isla.

“We are so happy and proud to have no less than our Chief of Staff, Gen. Romeo Brawner, accompanying us throughout the day. We felt secure and relaxed,” sabi ng lider ng Kamara na may 310 miyembro.

Ayon kay Speaker Romualdez, malaki ang potensyal ng Pag-asa island na maging isang sikat na resort dahil mayroon ng seguridad sa bansa.

Iginiit naman ng lider ng Kamara ang kahalagahan ng Kalayaan Group of Islands, kung saan napapabilang ang Pag-asa Island.

“Napakaganda at napakaimportante itong bahagi ng ating bansa, the Kalayaan Group of Islands,” saad pa ng Speaker.

Samantala, kinilala ni Speaker Romualdez ang pagsasama-sama ng mga tauhan ng AFP at iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno upang maging matagumpay ang kanilang biyahe.

“You will be proud to see what everyone is doing there for the Philippines, everyone —the men and women in uniform and services, and the residents there, they are true heroes because as the Chief of Staff said, that is in the furthest most point, ang layo na nga eh. We are all the way out, out there at the edge literally,” dagdag pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Nakasama ni Speaker Romualdez sa pagpunta sa isla sina House Majority Leader Mannix M. Dalipe, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, at House Appropriations Committee Chairman Zaldy Co.
