MASYADO pa umanong maaga para pag-usapan kung sino ang papalit kay Vice President Sara Duterte kapag na-convict ito ng Senate impeachment court.

Ayon kay House Assistant Majority Leader Jil Bongalon ng Ako Bicol Party-list, at miyembro ng 11-man House prosecution panel, hindi napag-uusapan ng mga mambabatas na sumuporta sa impeachment ang isyu ng kung sino ang papalit kay Duterte.

Sinabi ni Bongalon na mas nakatuon ang kanilang atensyon sa ginagawang paghahanda para sa paglilitis.

“I guess for me that is a premature issue that has to be tackled kasi wala pa nga tayo dun sa impeachment trial. So siguro we’ll cross the bridge when we get there once we are able to prosecute and secure a conviction of the Vice President,” tugon ni Bongalon sa tanong sa isang online press conference.

“Never in our conversations na i-tackle about who is going to succeed in the event that the Vice President is convicted in this impeachment case. And then sa pag-iikot din namin sa pakikipagkwentuhan sa mga kasamahan, wala nag-signify. No one is volunteering himself or herself to be the successor or to become the Vice President,” saad niya.

Una nang sinabi ni Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero na tatanggihan niya sakaling i-alok sa kaniya ang pwesto ng bise presidente kung maalis ito. Hinakon din niya ang mga miyembro ng Kamara de Representantes na sumuporta sa impeachment na sumunod sa kaniyang posisyon.

Tinukoy ng mambabatas na salig sa Konstitusyon, may karapatang pumili ang Presidente na mag-nominate ng susunod na bise-presidente na aaprubahan ng dalawang kapulungan ng Kongreso sa pamamagitan ng magkahiwalay na pag-boto.

“Well, probably that can be considered the statement made by the Senate President of the Philippines. But then again, kasi under the Constitution it’s the President who’s going to choose who will be the Vice President,” paliwanang ni Bongalon.

Pangunahin naming dapat ikonsidera sa pagpili ng papalit ay ang tiwala ng Pangulo na magagampanan ng magiging bagong pangalwang pangulo ang kaniyang mandato.

“Kung sa tingin niya, this particular lawmaker either from the Senate or from the House of Representatives is fit to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the Vice President, and therefore, I guess that is the paramount consideration in accepting the vice presidency,” sabi niya

Na-impeach sa Kamara de Represenantes si Duterte dahil sa mga reklamo gaya ng maling paggamit ng confidential funds at pagbabanta sa mga matataas na opisyal ng pamahalaan kabilang na mismo ang Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Ang kaso ay nakatakdang sumalang sa paglilitis ng Senado bilang impeachment court.

Bagama’t ang mga paglilitis ay nagbukas ng diskusyong politikal, binigyang diin ni Bongalon na dapat masunod ang legal na proseso bago ang anomang pag-uusap kaugnay sa papalit.
