TINANGGAP ni Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero nitong Lunes (Marso 3) ang kahandaang ipinakita ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III sa pangunguna sa pagsulat ng binagong mga panuntunan sa impeachment para sa paglilitis kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Iminungkahi ni Pimentel na si Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino, ay siyang magsasagawa ng isang espesyal na subkomite habang naghahanda ang Senado para sa pagbubukas ng Impeachment Court kung saan magsisilbing hukom ang mga senador.

“I welcome and thank Sen. Pimentel’s offer to help draft the proposed rules. I will instruct the legal team to coordinate with him on this matter,” ani ng Pangulo ng Senado.

“Again, all of these (rules, calendar, etc.) are simply proposals that will have to be approved in plenary and/or by the Impeachment Court once we resume and/or convene,” dagdag niya bilang paglilinaw.

Ipinahayag ni Sen.ll Pimentel nitong katapusan ng linggo ang kanyang kahandaang gampanan ang tungkulin, ngunit naghihintay siya ng opisyal na pag-aatas bago umusad.

“There is no problem. We are only five lawyers in the Senate today, so there may be no other choice,” aniya.

Binigyang-diin ni Pangulo ng Senado ang kahalagahan ng masusing paghahanda at koordinasyon upang matiyak ang isang patas at makatarungang proseso ng impeachment. “We must ensure that the rules and procedures are meticulously crafted to uphold the principles of justice and accountability.”

Batay sa panukalang iskedyul ng liderato ng Senado, ihaharap sa plenaryo ang Articles of Impeachment sa pagbubukas ng sesyon sa Hunyo 2, at magsisimula ang paglilitis sa Hulyo 30.
