SandovalSandoval1Sandoval2Sandoval4MALABON CITY — As the rainy season approaches, the Malabon City Government has implemented proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Malabueños.

“Sa panahon po ng tag-ulan, prayoridad ng pamahalaang lungsod ang kapakanan ng bawat pamilya sa Malabon. Kaya naman kahit hindi pa dumadating kalamidad, ay nakahanda na po tayo para sa mga operasyon at nagsasagawa ng mga pre-emptive, at preventive efforts natin. Makakasiguro po ang mga residente ng lungsod na una ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa ano man ang panahon,” Mayor Jeannie shared.

Mayor Jeannie recently convened with the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDDRMC), Emergency Response Team, and various national and local agencies during the 2nd Quarter MDDRMC Meeting for 2025 to discuss response plans for potential flooding in the city’s barangays due to heavy rains.

Among the agencies present were the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Engineering Department (CED), and the Bureau of Fire Protection–Malabon (BFP), among others.

As part of the city’s readiness strategy, the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported that all response clusters have been instructed to conduct a resource inventory, including human resources, check vital facilities, stockpile food and non-food items, and secure essential logistics.

Pre-disaster risk assessments, disaster and evacuation planning, and information dissemination will also be conducted to ensure that facilities and assets are prepared, and residents are informed of city protocols before, during, and after disasters.

MDDRMO also announced that its Command and Communication Center will operate 24/7 to monitor developments across the city and coordinate the deployment of resources. This includes monitoring systems in waterways, roadside cameras, early warning systems, boats, and other emergency vehicles.

The City Health Department, CSWDD, and barangays will assign health officers to each evacuation center to enforce health protocols such as social distancing, sanitation, and waste management. Cleanliness and orderliness will also be strictly maintained in these centers.

The city’s mobile laundry, Health Services on Wheels, and Lab for All Mobile Clinic mobile shower and restroom, mobile water station and mobile charging station to provide access for evacuees to basic needs and health services.

Meanwhile, the CED is closely monitoring the operation of 48 pumping stations and 120 floodgates across the city to prevent major flooding. Earlier upgrades to pumping stations have enhanced their capability to protect residents during the rainy season.

Regular declogging operations of rivers and drainage systems are also being conducted.

Around 20 BFP-Malabon personnel are on standby for rescue operations. Boats, ambulances, fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles have been prepositioned for quick deployment.

CENRO personnel and Estero Rangers continue their cleanup efforts, including trimming tree branches along roads and waterways to prevent obstructions and help mitigate flooding.

According to the CSWDD, approximately 4,500 family food packs and non-food items have been prepositioned for distribution to affected families in evacuation centers or during relief operations.
