INIULAT ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na tumaas ang suplay ng bigas sa bansa dulot ng anihan at sapat umano ito para sa 52 araw mula noong katapusan ng Setyembre.

Sinabi ito ni DA Undersecretary Mercedita Sombilla kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa isinagawang sectoral meeting sa Malacañang kung saan pinag-usapan ang Executive Order (EO) No. 39, ang kautusan na nagpataw ng price ceiling sa bigas.

Dahil marami na ang suplay at humupa na ang presyo sa pandaigdigang pamilihan, sinabi ng DA na maaari ng alisin ang price ceiling.

Sinabi ni DA-Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) Director Gerald Glenn Panganiban na dahil nagpapatuloy ang anihan ngayong buwan at inaasahan na lalo pang tataas ang dami ng suplay ng bigas bansa.

Inaasahan umano ng DA na ang suplay ay sasapat ng 74 araw.

“So that’s about it and we are expected that DA and DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) to have collaborations in order to further monitor and survey the prices so that it will not… again, increase drastically,” ani Panganiban.

“So, that’s what we are doing and we are working with all agencies of the government – not only the DA but also the DTI and DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) to implement whatever measures and guidelines we can do so that the consumers and, of course, our stakeholders, the farmers, who also benefited (from this),” dagdag pa ng opisyal.

Ipinako ng Malacañang sa P41 ang kada kilo ng regular milled rice at P45 kada kilo naman sa well-milled rice sa ilalim ng EO 39.
