“DAPAT pang matagalan na solusyon at hindi band aid style.

Ito ang inihayag ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III kung saan ay sinabi niyang pormal siyang hihiling kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na sertipikahan bilang “urgent” ang Senate Bill 1215 o Independent People’s Commission (IPC) upang mapabilis ang pagpasa nito sa Kongreso. Binigyang-diin niya na titiyakin ng panukala ang pagpapatuloy ng Executive Order ng Pangulo sa pamamagitan ng pagiging ganap na batas.

“While the President’s Executive Order is immediate, my bill ensures permanence. The IPC will not just be a stop-gap measure, it will institutionalize oversight and prevent instances like this from happening again in the future,” pahayag ni Sotto.

Ipinaliwanag niya na hindi lamang mga proyekto ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ang rerepasuhin ng IPC kundi pati mga programang may kaugnayan sa imprastruktura ng Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, at Department of Education.

“Corruption in projects does not only happen in roads and bridges. It also affects farm-to-market roads, hospitals, and schools. That’s why this bill is important because it protects taxpayers’ money and makes sure projects truly serve the people,” dagdag pa niya.

Malugod din niyang tinanggap ang paghahain ng katulad na panukala sa House of Representatives at iginiit na mas mahalaga ang agarang aksyon kaysa kung alin sa dalawang kapulungan ang mauuna. “It doesn’t matter which chamber moves first. Whether House or Senate, what’s important is that Congress acts fast so we can pass this into law without delay,” aniya.

Giit pa ni Sotto, mahalaga ang IPC upang mapangalagaan ang pondo ng bayan, matiyak ang transparency, at maibalik ang tiwala ng publiko sa mga proyekto ng pamahalaan.
