Sotto nangako ng pinakamalinis na budget para sa 2026
IPINANGAKO ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na magiging “pinakamalinis na budget” ang pambansang pondo sa 2026, kasabay ng planong bawasan ang pondo ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at pagbabalik ni Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson sa Blue Ribbon Committee.
Sa panayam ng ANC, sinabi ni Sotto na mananatiling halos kapareho ng National Expenditure Program (NEP) ang bersyon ng Senado ng budget bill, at bubuksan sa publiko ang bicam conference para maiwasan ang mga tagong “insertions.”
“We’ll make sure that the 2026 budget will be very close to the [NEP]. There will not be any insertions after second reading,” pahayag ni Sotto.
Dagdag pa niya, layon ng Senado na higpitan ang paggastos ng DPWH.
“We’re planning to limit the budget of the DPWH to less than 15 or 20 percent of its original. That’s where the graft and corruption come in,” sabi ni Sotto. “About P300 billion [was] inserted into the budget of the DPWH. We will not allow it to happen. Not during our watch.”
Kinumpirma rin ng Senate President na pinag-uusapan na ng mayorya ang pagbabalik ni Sen. Panfilo Lacson bilang Blue Ribbon chairman.
“He didn’t say a hard no. He said, ‘Let’s talk about it,’” ani Sotto. “We’ll know by our meeting next week.”
Tiniyak naman ni Sotto na mananatili sa kustodiya ng Senado ang mga resource person na nasangkot sa imbestigasyon sa flood control anomaly, kabilang si Mr. Discaya, matapos ibasura ng Pasay RTC ang kanilang habeas corpus petition.
“The Pasay RTC dismissed the writ [of habeas corpus]. Mr. Discaya will be retained under contempt,” wika niya. “If released, they might not be found.”
Sa transparency front, inanunsyo rin ni Sotto na papayagan niyang ilabas sa publiko ang kanyang Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), maliban sa address.
“I’m allowing [my SALN] to be released today… complete, only [addresses] redacted,” aniya. “Most agreed; a few were silent.”
Giit ni Sotto, tungkulin ng Senado na bantayan ang kaban ng bayan: “The Senate will help curb corruption. It will not happen again on our watch.”
