MULING nahalal si Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez bilang Speaker ng Kamara de Representantes sa pagbubukas ng unang regular session ng 20th Congress nitong Lunes.

Walang lumaban kay Romualdez sa pagiging Speaker matapos na makuha ang suporta ng supermajority bloc ng Kamara.

Ito na ang ikalawang sunod na pagkakataon na nanalo si Romualdez bilang Speaker, na isang pagpapakita ng pagkakaisa at kumpiyansa sa kanyang pamumuno.

Si Speaker Romualdez, na nagsilbi na rin bilang Speaker sa 19th Congress, ay muling nahalal sa posisyon sa pamamagitan ng landslide na boto ng kumpiyansa mula sa mga mambabatas, na muling kinilala ang kanyang pamumuno bilang tagapangulo ng Kamara at pangunahing legislative strategist sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Nakakuha si Speaker Romualdez ng kabuuang 269 na boto para sa speakership.

Sa harap ng kanyang pamilya na pinangunahan ng kanyang asawa na si Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda K. Romualdez, nanumpa si Speaker Romualdez sa tungkulin sa harap ni Bulacan Rep. Salvador Aquino Pleyto Sr.

Itinalaga naman ni House Secretary General Reginald “Reggie” S. Velasco, ang presiding officer ng sesyon, si Iloilo Rep. Lorenz R. Defensor bilang acting floor leader upang matiyak ang kaayusan ng proseso.

Ang kanyang nominasyon ay pormal na inihain ni Quezon 2nd District Rep. David “Jay-jay” Suarez, miyembro ng Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).

Pinuri ni Suarez ang transformative leadership ni Speaker Romualdez noong nakaraang Kongreso, at binigyang-diin ang pagbabagong dala niya sa Kamara bilang “a true House of the People—responsive to the needs of the nation, attuned to the voice of the common Filipino, and anchored in the values of unity, service and progress.”

“Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is not only a public servant of experience and stature—he is a leader of empathy, integrity and conviction. A unifier. A reformer. A partner of the President and a champion of the people,” ani Suarez.

“Let us entrust the Speakership to a man who has already shown us what dignified, decisive and compassionate leadership looks like. Let us reaffirm our commitment to good governance by placing the gavel once more in capable, steady hands,” dagdag pa niya.

Sinangayunan naman ng mga pangunahing lider ng iba’t ibang partido ang nominasyon ni Speaker Romualdez, na nagpapakita ng malawakang suporta mula sa buong Kamara.

Sinegundahan ni Presidential son at Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos ang nominasyon sa ngalan ng Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), ang partido ng Pangulo.

Gayundin nina Quezon 1st District Rep. Mark Enverga sa ngalan ng Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Antipolo 1st District Rep. Ronaldo V. Puno para sa National Unity Party (NUP) at Misamis Oriental 2nd District Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano para sa Nacionalista Party (NP).

Nagpahayag din ng buong suporta si Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) Party-list Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza ng Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc., na lalo pang nagpapatatag sa suporta mula sa malaking voting bloc ng mga party-list sa Kamara.

Ang muling pagkakahalal kay Speaker Romualdez ay tanda ng pagpapatuloy ng pamumunong naging daan sa isa sa mga pinaka-produktibong termino ng lehislatura sa mga nakaraang taon.

Sa 19th Congress, napagtibay ng Kamara ang maraming prayoridad na panukala alinsunod sa Bagong Pilipinas agenda, kabilang ang 61 sa 64 na panukalang batas mula sa Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC); at pinalakas ang koordinasyon sa ehekutibo at tiwala ng publiko sa pamamagitan ng transparency, pagtugon at inklusibong pamamahala.

Ayon sa pinakahuling survey ng Social Weather Stations (SWS), tumaas ang trust rating ni Speaker Romualdez mula 26 porsiyento tungong 34 porsiyento.

Tumaas din ang kumpiyansa ng publiko sa House of Representatives mula 34 porsiyento noong Abril, sa 49 porsiyento noong Mayo at umabot sa 57 porsiyento noong Hunyo.

Ayon kay Suarez, si Speaker Romualdez ay “brought not just experience, but character—marked by quiet strength, strategic foresight, and unwavering commitment to public service.”

“With clarity of vision and steadiness of hand, he championed landmark reforms, strengthened legislative–executive cooperation, and ensured that every voice, regardless of affiliation or region, found space in our national conversation,” dagdag ni Suarez.

Binigyang-diin ni Suarez na naiiba ang istilo ng pamumuno ni Romualdez sa tradisyonal na pulitika.

“Colleagues, I have seen firsthand how Speaker Romualdez works—not for the spotlight, but for results. His leadership transcends titles; it is grounded in listening, guided by principle, and driven by an enduring faith in the Filipino people,” aniya.

Dagdag pa niya: “In the face of adversity, he remains calm. Under pressure, he stays grounded. Amid political divisions, he builds bridges. And in times of doubt, he leads with heart.”

Tinukoy din ni Suarez ang rekord ni Speaker Romualdez sa nakaraang Kongreso bilang “one of the most productive and purposeful legislative terms in recent memory.”

“We passed priority measures that advanced the goals of Bagong Pilipinas, empowered communities, and created pathways for inclusive and sustainable growth,” aniya. “But more than numbers or laws, he gave us direction—and he gave the public something more important than power: trust.”

Ang tiwalang ito, ayon kay Suarez, ay nakuha ni Speaker Romualdez sa kanyang pagsusumikap, transparency at uri ng kanyang pamumuno na mas nakikinig kaysa nagsasalita, at tinutupad ang mga pangako at pinag-iisa ang mga magkakahiwalay.
