KINONDENA ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) noong Linggo ang “misleading interpretations” kaugnay ng pansamantalang pag-deploy ng Typhon missile system ng Estados Unidos sa bansa.

Ang pahayag ng AFP ay kasunod ng pagkuwestiyon ni Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte sa deployment, na aniya ay maaaring maglagay sa Pilipinas sa panganib na maipit sa mga foreign conflict.

Ayon sa AFP, binanggit lamang ni Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. ang isang “technical fact” tungkol sa range ng missile system at nilinaw na ang presensiya nito ay para sa “training and capability-building purposes” ― bahagi ng nagpapatuloy na modernisasyon upang palakasin ang pambansang depensa.

“Any insinuation that the AFP or its leadership serves foreign interests is false and undermines the integrity, professionalism, and patriotism of the institution,” ayon sa statement.

Binigyang-diin ng militar na lahat ng pakikipag-ugnayan sa larangan ng depensa ay “conducted in line with the Philippines’ independent foreign policy and sovereign prerogative.”

Pinaalalahanan din nito ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno at mga opinion leader na “exercise prudence and responsibility” upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng maling impormasyon o ang pagguho ng tiwala sa Sandatahang Lakas.

“The AFP remains steadfast in its duty to protect the Filipino people and defend the nation’s sovereignty — serving no one but the Filipino and protecting nothing but the Philippines,” sinabi nito. Philippine News Agency
