SUPORTADO ni Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. ang hiling na extradition kay Pastor Apollo Quiboloy at iginiit ang pangangailangan para sa pandaigdigang pagkakaisa upang labanan ang sex trafficking ng mga kababaihan at bata.

“The war against the sexual exploitation and trafficking of women and children is a global one,” sabi ni Abante.

“Countries need to work together to stop it. International cooperation, including extradition, should be utilized for us to make inroads against this evil,” dagdag pa nito.

Sinabi ni Abante, chairman ng House committee on human rights, na bagaman marami nang nagawa ang Pilipinas sa pagpapalakas ng mga batas laban sa trafficking, nananatili ang hamon na ito dahil tumatawid ito ng teritoryo at kailangan ng tulong ng ibang bansa.

Tinukoy ng mambabatas ang United Nations’ Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children—na kilala rin bilang Palermo Protocol—na niratipika ng Pilipinas noong 2022.

Ang treaty ay dagdag sa UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime at inoobliga ang mga lumagda na makipagtulungan sa imbestigasyon at paglilitis sa mga kaso ng trafficking, pagprotekta sa mga biktima at paghabol sa mga offender na magtatangkang tumakas sa ibang bansa.

“Our responsibility does not end at our borders. When the fight is against a crime that violates the most vulnerable amongst us, there should be no safe havens,” punto ng mambabatas.

Iginiit ni Abante na ang isyu ay hindi tungkol sa personalidad na sangkot kundi sa prinsipyo.

“We should make clear that no individual is above the law, and no one accused of crimes as grave as trafficking should be able to escape accountability by hiding behind borders,” paliwanag ng solon.

“Extradition is not just a legal mechanism; it is a moral commitment by nations to work hand in hand in protecting those who cannot protect themselves.”

Binanggit din ni Abante ang Psalm 82:4 na nagpapaalala na tulungan ang mga mahihirap at nangangailangan laban sa kasamaan.

“This is why I support the extradition of Pastor Quiboloy. It is a step in upholding justice, fulfilling our international obligations, and, most importantly, protecting women and children from exploitation,” wika pa ni Abante.
