TINIYAK ni Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) Director Col. Hansel Marantan na mga sasakyang may ilegal na “green plate” lang ang huhulihin sa EDSA.

“Mag-apologize ako if I cause you pain and inconvenience pero what we are targeting are vehicles sporting green plates pero illegal, meaning they are not in the list of the Department of Energy and their intention really is to evade the color-coding scheme in EDSA,” sabi ng opisyal.

“It is part of our effort to help in the order of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to remove pain points in our highways. That statement is a fair warning to green plates na illegal. Papano namin nalaman? It is an information-driven operation and we have received reports already na me mga motor vehicles na naglalagay ng Hybrid marks sa sasakyan nila kahit hindi naman sila totoong hybrid,” sabi ni Marantan.

Ayon sa PNP-HPG director, maraming hindi nakakalam na sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11697, ang Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA law, tanging mga hybrid at electric vehicles (EVs) ang dapat i-recognize ng Department of Energy (DOE).

“Our intention is to unmask illegally-registered green plate vehicles. We are even holding a meeting with the MMDA chairman and will ask him how HPG can help para in unison ang efforts namin sa EDSA, hindi kalat-kalat at saying naman kung redundant ang efforts namin,” sabi niya.

“Me hawak na din kaming information regarding motor vehicles sporting illegal green plates. So ang pakiusap ko lang po ay ibalik nyo na yung mga old plates niyo para hindi na kayo ma-inconvenience,” pakiusap ng opisyal.

Sa kasalukuyan, hindi pa masyadong maraming sasakyan na may unauthorized green plates pero tiyak na dadami ito kapag hindi naagapan.

“We have information regarding the source of these illegal green plates and monitoring social media accounts re these green plates. Meron nga tinake down na.

Wala pa kaming na-apprehend as of today as it is just an announcement to warn, just a proactive move lang. Anyway, may copy na kami ng DOE list. So no need for individuals whose hybrid vehicles are in the DOE list.

Pero hindi guarantee na porke na me electric-powered vehicle at me green plate ka ay you won’t be flagged down. The 1st requirement is dapat nasa listahan ka ng DOE.

We are just going after people taking advantage of it para makaligtas sa color-coding. Ang gusto nating matanggal dito eh mga sasakyang nakakadagdag sa EDSA congestion,” sabi ng opisyal.
