KINUWESTIYON ni House committee on higher and technical education chair Jude Acidre ang timing ng paglikha ng Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee on flood control projects dahlia puwedeng ma-divert ang atensiyon ng publiko dito imbes na sa impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.

“Ako pareho ako ng katanungan ng marami. Bakit kaya pinipilit nila na gawin ito sa panahong ito ngayon? Alam naman natin kung ano at saan nakatuon ang atensiyon ng taumbayan,” sabi ni Acidre sa Saturday News Forum sa Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City.

Para sa kanya, dapat ipaubaya na sa Ombudsman ang flood control issue dahil na-examine na ito sa mga congressional hearings.

“Tutal nandoon na rin naman ang proseso sa Ombudsman, which is the proper forum. And I think everybody will agree that that is the proper forum. I’m not saying that we should escape accountability, but we allow the proper forum to take over the process of exacting accountability,” sabi ng kongresista.

“Katulad sa amin sa Kongreso, the one who creates the subcommittee is the mother committee, hindi plenary. It’s unheard of sa House na gagawan ng subcommittee for that purpose,” dagdag niya.

Pero para kay Acidre, dapat magpatuloy ang imbestigasyon sa flood control at panagutin ang mga may kasalanan.

“The process of searching for accountability, of exacting accountability should proceed, should continue.

Pero ang tanong ko, it should be on the basis of evidence, it should be on the basis of the rule of law, and it should not be used as a mechanism to deflect attention from the ongoing impeachment trial. Because in the end, accountability din ’yun eh. You cannot undermine that,” pahayag ni Acidre.
